Thank you to everyone who participated in our first scavenger hunt. We've finally found the time between changing hardware, switching over to the new site, squashing bugs, and partying with our Portland users to finish tallying all of the points.
I apologize to everyone who was in the middle of finishing their maps when we shut down for migration and to go live with our new release. I took that into account and didn't adhere to the rules about the time limit.
In the I'm Not Really Trying Category
I'll start with the more pathetic among us first, including myself. Yes, I knew I couldn't technically win. Yes, I was busy, but I thought maybe I could just play anyhow. Two Places, 7 points. Alas. I mention Coffywoman's participation mainly because she has a couple other good maps I like. She comes in with one Place and 0 points (no picture). Hive made a slightly better showing in the "Not Really Trying" category with 16 points. Most of his pictures are still MIA from the data migration but I of course gave him the benefit of the doubt. I applaud all our good intentions even starting to play.
In the 40-something Category
Three Players scored close to each other in the 40-ish point range. Kbeadle's map scored 41 points. Heavyj won the Portland-area contest by showing up for our free beer at the party with is map worth 42 points. He left with some O'Reilly books about map hacking. Spanaut could have beat that if he'd been able to make it. His map is worth 47 points.
In the Serious about Winning Category
Three people really went out and hunted. Our third and second place winners have scores so close I'm going to call it a tie because I'm too lazy to go back and recount. You guys will get a consolation prize of a new Platial t-shirt.
Garyjwood jumped on the game right away and mustered a map worth 187 points.
Guy2k earned 189 points with his map. I have to say that I love the fact that the Scavenger Hunt map is his first on Platial. He had an interesting rule-bending strategy of photographing many of the list items several times. We do love rule bending, but we also love to say, "No way. Each item only once!" And anyhow, it would not have made enough of a difference because our winner...
drum roll please....
blew everyone out of the water with 227 Points! Tana Butler, what a scavenger map! And great pictures, as usual. Congratulations. Someone should already be in touch with you about how to get you your prize: a solar-powered juice bag backpack.
Have a look at the winning wonder:
I had a lot of fun, and I realize that I had the distinct advantage of being a self-employed photographer who is obsessed with: 1) maps; 2) checking things off lists; 3) mystery prizes.
The prize really is cool; I've never seen anything like it.
Thanks for a really fun game, and for letting me look into other people's creative minds, too.
