Along with punk spaces, Independent Bookstores&So Cal Farmers Markets, Platial member hundredflowers has created a fantastic map based around the 1985 Tim Burton cult classic about a boy and his bike.
From Pasedena to the Alamo, this map marks the key filming locations from the film. What's missing from the map? The bike shop / mini mall where PW's ride got it's lock snipped.
doodooboy has a concise and tidy niche product proposal: GPS Doggypoo Avoider.
From the map description:
Where mashups fight sh*t.The aim of this mashup is to provide a service to people who wish to avoid the embarrassment and inconvenience of stepping in Doggy Doos.
Please include description, date of sighting and approximate size of the Doo, with speculation as to breed.
I hope to add GPS geo-coding, instant photoblogging of Doos and possibly even location-sensitive SMS alerts to warn users of hazards ahead.
Please join the fight against Doos.

Maybe you are a proud resident of one of them?
The basic info:
1. The list of items is below!
2. you can start as soon as you get this list, judging will take place at the Platial party. We will have a local Portland winner, this person needs to be here in person (read about the Party below the list) to win. We will also be holding the contest internationally, and those entries will be tallied later that night. The non local participants will have the same cut off time as the local users (5:30pm April 11th, 2006 PST) Any Places added to the site after that time will not be scored.
2.5 You don't have to be the original photographer. And, you will need to score yourself: some time before the deadline, you should add up your points and declare them in the description of your map. We will go ahead and confirm the scores of the top several maps, but it's just going to help us out on time a huge amount. Thanks. :)
3. to submit your entry, register at http://Platial.com/register (free), "create a map" with the word "scav" somewhere in the title (so we can find all the maps). it's also best to send us an email linking to the map , so we can make sure not to miss it. leave a comment here with a link to your map.
4. plot the photos on the map (be as close as you can) as Places (just click the 'add a place' button to get started). You need to title each Place with the scavenger hunt item(s) that the photo contains. So if you have a photo of the 'tip jar' and 'roller skates' in one Place, the Place should be titled "tip jar & roller skates"
5. focus on the scores of the items, not just the quantity of items. you can have multiple items covered in one photo but the title must contain the items to get points for them.
6. winner is the person with the most points. The prizes will be great, seriously!
7. all determinations about what counts and doesn't count will be judged on a partially impartial basis and will not be subject to review. it's all in fun anyway.
