The local daily around these parts, the Oregonian, ran a piece on Platial today. The angle is quite nice, it's very much about the users, and specifically about dougiedoodle's "Dump Spots", a map of failed romantic encounters, rejections, and breakups. Romance is turning out to be pretty popular with the press, maybe part of Platial's appeal, or that of citizen media in general is a presumed lightness of heart (maybe to soften the potential threats that the professional media might be feeling with the continued upswing in citizen media in general?) Whatever the reason, romance and failed romance alike are hot hot hot. Dougiedoodle's map now even has a feminine counterpart: kristen410's "Dump Map".
This Indonesian Mexican wrestling nurse was part of the warm welcome we had at the Oregonian studios:
Congrats!

Guess if I want my name mentioned in relation to my PDX trolley & demolished buildings maps I should, y'know, actually, like, talk to the reporter. I like how Di is called the "godmother of guerilla marketing" but the article makes no mention of, like, WHY this is the case.

While it was a glowing article, I also think Steve did a great job of keepin' it real by mentioning the fact the site is still slow and intuitiveness of the service is still a work in progress. It's quite a challenge that indeed keeps us up late at night every night. What was once the domain of only very expensive, very elite software which required significant knowledge is now in a simple form being opened up to the masses. I think everyone working on social mapping now will agree that it's going to take a little more time.
Did we ever share this abc news link? abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=1919606
Tinzeroes- didnt you guys talk at the party? We were hoping to see more local history in the article but there is plenty of room for next time. And, tz, I used to have a guerilla marketing company in the dotcom boom. It has some moments of glory- thus the title.
