Amsterdam's Urban Play events recently featured the work of Mexico's Gilberto Esparza. His Urban Parasites crawl, climb, and rummage through the often ignored spaces around the city.
These parasites have, and expose us to, a different kind of place awareness. All things that live and work in a city use the bits and pieces differently, see them, think of them, in dramatically novel ways. There isn't so much "a city" as there are "many overlapping cities" where someone's center is another's edge.
I relish the city that is alive with endless users, doing what the planners could never have imagined.
